This watercolor design by Susan Clanton was inspired by Colonial Williamsburg’s custom of using fruits, vegetables, and lots of greenery to create Christmas wreaths, swags, and garlands. We love the look of apple bedecked doorways, the welcoming pineapple, and colorful citrus wreaths! Fun fact: fruits and vegetables were not actually used in colonial times. Neighbors would have thought you were wasteful and frivolous if you used perfectly good food in your Christmas decorations. The look was popularized in the beginning of the twentieth century when holiday decorations were becoming more widespread. Who loves history?!
